Cleveland Artists Foundation
Cleveland's Center for Regional Art
"Accompanied by catalogs with fresh observations by scholars and researchers, the foundation's exhibitions are building awareness of the region's greatest achievements in the visual arts in the 20th century. That's an essential service-and at the moment, no other institution in the city is doing it as consistently, or as well." --Steven Litt, Plain Dealer Art Critic
Cleveland Artists Foundation next exhibition Black and White: Geometric Abstractions of Edwin Mieczkowski will run from May 18 - July 28, 2012 with an opening reception on May 18 from 6-8pm in CAF's Virginia Foley Gallery.

Mieczkowski, Ernst Benkert, and Francis Hewitt formed the Anonima Group in the 1960s, and together they developed strict methods of creation and exploration of visual perception that continued to inform Mieczkowski's work long after the group dissolved. The exhibition will focus on the black and white works from this period and Mieczkowski's return to this theme throughout his career. Viewing his constructions, sculpture, and later paintings under the microscope of a singular palette will allow for a uniformed examination of his creative process. It will allow new discoveries into how his thought process progressed, yet remained fixated on geometric abstraction. The exhibition will introduce Mieczkowski's color works as well, relating them to his black and white compositions.

Following the Mieczkowski exhibition, CAF will be closed through the month of August and will reopen in the fall with an exhibition featuring the work of Tom Balbo in conjunction with Cleveland Public Library's Octavofest.

The opening reception is free for CAF members and $5 for non-members.
